Wiley Outdoor Products, LLC is the manufacturer of Flextone Game
Calls, Remington Game Calls, Dead Ringer Game Calls, and the Flexblind
Boat Blind. Tom Wiley, an avid duck hunter, was working as a nurse
at the Oktibbeha County Hospital. At about 4 A.M. one morning, Tom
picked up a piece of surgical tubing left over from putting a chest
tube in someone. He thought, “I bet this would make a good
duck call”. He turned a spare bedroom into a workshop and
began making duck calls from this tubing. The first Flextone calls
were made in that spare bedroom in late 1997.
Everyone who heard the calls was impressed at how the flexible
tubing produced a truer, more natural sound by more accurately mimicking
the soft, flexible tissue of an animal’s neck and tongue.
Tom later began to sell the calls to local stores and at trade shows.
Sales grew rapidly, and Tom was forced to quit his job as a nurse
to keep up with demand. Tom began to develop more calls, since he
was now a full time call maker. He created a deer call out of flexible
tubing, which has become his best selling product to date. The deer
call’s flexible call body allows the user to change tones
by simply squeezing the call at various, labeled pressure points.
Also, the call is silent if accidentally coming into contact with
the user’s gun or bow. Tom received a patent on flexible game
calls in August of 2000 and began licensing calls for Remington
in 2002. The company has grown rapidly which has brought about change.
The office has gone from Tom’s house to the back of The Bass
Shop in Starkville, and now to two separate locations. The products
are manufactured and distributed from a warehouse in Pearl, MS,
and a new sales office and showroom has just been opened this year
in Starkville. The line has gone from just a few calls to over 100
products, and has grown from duck calls only to calls and gear for
all types of hunting. These products can be found in almost 1,000
stores across America. The major retailers include Cabela’s,
Bass Pro Shops, Mack’s Prairie Wings, and Woods-N-Water to
name a few. They can also be found in most local sporting goods
stores such as Mean Mallard in Jackson, Big Buck in Hattiesburg,
Hunter’s Hollow in Oxford, and Van’s in Rankin County.
In 2003, Wiley Outdoor Products, LLC introduced the Flexblind,
a boat blind for waterfowl hunters designed by Tom Wiley. The versatility
and simple design has made the blind a huge success. Most recently,
Wiley Outdoor Products has acquired Dead Ringer Game Calls. This
new line of calls consists of high end acrylic duck and goose calls,
and hand-crafted turkey calls. Wiley Outdoor Products, LLC also
makes accessories, such as lanyards, game totes, hunting videos,
